Hey fraser,

thanks for your comment on my blog, whoever you are. ;-)

To answer your questions: Mammoth Cave is a 15 minutes drive south of Margaret River along Caves Road. As the plural-roadname implies, there's also a few other interesting caves around, so if you are interested and have time, check it out!

The massive pier/jetty can be found in Busselton, between Margaret River and Perth. Other things to do around perth is going sandboarding and visiting the Pinnacles. There's heaps more of course, but as my time there unfortunately was very limited, these were the only things I could do and tell you about.

If you go to Perth, please plan your stay a week ahead. I was used from the east coast to booking hostels on arrival, but apparently that does not work for Perth. I had to stay for 3 days in two really, really dodgy places, because nothing else was available. A hostel I can really recommend is "Governeor Robinson" in Robinson Avenue, Northbridge. It is a small backpackers with family-like athmosphere, good service, friendly people of all kind, and it is very clean. The cost per night is $30 (whereas the dodgy ones, worst of which was "Central Backpackers" a.k.a. "Grand Hotel", were $25 per night, so there's no such a big difference).

In the city itself you will find a free bus-service running for visitors, which is quite handy. Jump on one of them to visit "King's Park", which is a botanical Garden area on top of Perth's citiy hill and gives you spectacular views of the CBD! Internet-Cafés in Perth can be quite pricey, so if you require access and have a laptop with you, the McDonnalds in William Street with free WiFi is your place of choice.

These are the basics I could make up my mind about.

I hope you will enjoy your trip!

Cheers
Thomas

Also sag ich mal 'Ja!'. ;-)
